IECM to give global edge to handicrafts: PM
PRIME MINISTER Manmohan Singh Inaugurated the India Expo Centre & mart (IECM), a state-of-the-art complex for international marketing of products from the handicrafts & cottage sector at Greater Noida last week.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he expressed happiness over the growth in modern amenities in Greater Noida and hoped the entire country would benefit from the development of the region.
The PM also ensured he would take up with his cabinet colleagues the issue of the international airport and extension of the metro rail link to Greater Noida. He said, “The opening of he India Expo Centre & Mart should mark an important milestone in the rejuvenation f our textile, garment, handloom and handicraft industry. Our textile is capable of regaining its glorious position as one the world’s most creative and competitive industries.”
Union Minister of Textiles Shankersinh Vaghela, Amar Singh, Chairman, UP Development Council, and Ashok Pradhan, Member of Parliament from Khurja, was also present on the occasion.
In league with the best
The IECM has been developed on the lines of trade marts in Dallas, Atlanta, and Las Vegas in the US, Shanghai in China and Utrecht in Holland. The complex boasts of a centrally air conditioned building, 100 per cent power back up, 28 escalators, 30 passengers lift and freight lifts and glass lifts, parking for 8,000 cars and 200 trucks , an elaborate fire fighting system, video walls and LED screens, all managed through Integrated Building Management System.
