A Mart for small traders
THE COTTAGE industry will get a major boost when the first phase of the India Exposition Mart opens here on April 26. Two exhibitions – one on interiors and the other on real estate industry – will mark the opening of the mart.
A joint project of the Ministry of textiles, Export Promotion council for handicrafts, handicraft exporters and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), the Exposition Mart is devoted to the handicrafts sector and will be fully operational in October at the Knowledge Park – II.
“Dubai’s DMG World Wide and Expomedia (UK) is holding the interiors show while the real estate exhibition is being organized by Big 5, Dubai,” says Rakesh Kumar, Managing Director, India Exposition Mart Limited (IEML).
The three-day exhibition will be inaugurated by the UPDC chairman Amar Singh. “The idea is to provide a platform for handicrafts manufacturers and exporters to display their wares and to boost exports,” says Rakesh Kumar.
The products on display at the interiors show – Interiors International India 2005 – will include domestic and office furniture, flooring, interior design services, textiles, wall coverings, Window products, interior architecture, lighting, art and accessories.
The India International Construction and Contracting Exhibition 2005 will have participants from a large number of Asian and European countries. A Rs 700 crore project, the Mart is spread over 20 lakh square feet and includes an exposition mart, conference centre, food plaza, a hotel, a helipad, exhibition halls, restaurants, and other international standard facilities along the lines of similar marts across the world.
There will be 16 escalators, eight passenger elevators and 11 freight lifts. Parking will have space for 8,000 cars and 200 trucks.
It has been envisaged as a nodal point where foreign buyers can meet cottage sector exporters throughout the year. Periodic exhibitions and fairs will also be held. “There are wireless and Internet facilities and power backup,” says Narattan samdaria, chairman, IEML.
